Our guide Priya created a group atmosphere of curiosity and openness that meant every conversation โ at dinner, on the bus, at sites โ was interesting. The women in the group became friends.

โFirst-time India visitors are often told to start with the Golden Triangle. Adding Varanasi turned a good trip into a transformative one. Varanasi's Sarnath โ the deer park where the Buddha gave his first sermon โ was an unexpectedly moving visit and added a Buddhist dimension I had not anticipated. Our guide had detailed knowledge of both Hindu and Buddhist traditions and answered every question with patience and depth.
The hotels throughout were well-chosen and my room at the Varanasi heritage property overlooked the Ganges. The sunrise from that room was extraordinary.โ

โWe first visited India in 2012 and promised ourselves we would return for Rajasthan. Thirteen years later, Globalduniya helped us finally make it happen and the wait was entirely justified. The country has developed considerably โ infrastructure, hotel standards, guide quality โ and the heritage remains spectacular. The Amber Fort in Jaipur at 7 am, before the crowds, was as magical as we had imagined.
The Jaisalmer desert camp experience was the highlight neither of us had expected โ we are city people who do not camp, but this was not camping in any form we recognised. It was theatre under the stars.โ

โOur guide arranged late evening access to Madurai's Meenakshi Temple for the midnight procession ceremony โ the deity carried in procession to the inner sanctum accompanied by musicians. The temple at midnight, lit by oil lamps and filled with incense and the sound of Carnatic music, with hundreds of worshippers rather than tourists, is as intense and beautiful as anything we have experienced in a lifetime of travel.
Tamil Nadu's living temple culture is not a heritage attraction โ it is a functioning civilisation. Globalduniya understood what we wanted from South India and delivered it completely.โ

โWe chose the luxury version of the Golden Triangle specifically for the Oberoi properties and they surpassed every expectation. The Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra โ where every room looks directly at the Taj Mahal โ is simply extraordinary. Waking at dawn to that view from bed is an experience money can provide and we are not embarrassed to say so. The Oberoi Rajvilas in Jaipur was equally exceptional.
The private guide allocated to us for the full eight days, Ashish, was one of the finest we have encountered in twenty years of international travel. His knowledge of Mughal art, architecture and history was encyclopaedic.โ

โWe have stayed in luxury hotels on every continent. India's palace hotels โ converted royal residences of Rajput and Mughal-era rulers โ are in a category entirely their own. The Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur (where the Maharaja still lives in one wing) and the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur (floating in the middle of Lake Pichola) are two of the world's great hotels by any measure. Globalduniya selected the exact right properties for each city.
Our private guide Arun for the full twelve days was exceptional โ clearly briefed on our interests, extremely knowledgeable about royal heritage and courtly traditions, and excellent company. The birthday dinner arranged on the Taj Lake Palace terrace was a complete surprise and beautifully done.โ

โMost of my friends who visit India do DelhiโAgraโJaipur. Globalduniya suggested this itinerary as an alternative and I am so glad I took their advice. Goa's north is different from the south โ quieter, more Portuguese in character, better for heritage exploration. And Hampi is genuinely one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites I have visited anywhere in the world.
The train from Goa to Hubli and then transfer to Hampi was well organised and the accommodation throughout was comfortable. My guide at Hampi, Shiva, was outstanding โ knowledgeable, patient and excellent English.โ

โIndia had been on our bucket list for years but we kept delaying because of the children โ now 8 and 11. This easy-pace family itinerary was the answer. The sites were chosen for their child engagement value as much as their heritage significance. The Taj Mahal's story (a love story the children could understand), the Amber Fort's elephant-mounted royal processional history, the bazaar treasure hunt in Jaipur โ all landed perfectly.

โWe arrived at Munnar at sunrise through rolling mist โ the tea bushes bright green against the cloud and the smell of tea processing from the Tata estate filling the cool air. This is one of the world's great landscapes for tea country and Globalduniya timed our arrival perfectly. The estate tour with the factory visit showed the full journey from bush to cup.
Fort Kochi's Dutch and Portuguese heritage is unexpectedly rich for a coastal Indian town. The backwaters overnight was peaceful and the food was exceptional throughout Kerala. I will recommend this itinerary to everyone.โ
